Call for vigilance! Heavy rain warning and risk of local flooding overnight on Tuesday
This afternoon, the Severe Weather and Flood Risk Assessment Unit (CERI) met again to review the meteorological and hydrological situation. An orange alert for heavy rain is in place and will affect the whole country, particularly the south and east, from 10 p.m. tonight until 12 noon on Tuesday.
During this period, continuous and sustained rainfall is expected, with estimated accumulations of between 30 and 50 litres per square metre, locally reaching 50 to 80 litres per square metre. Peak intensity is expected overnight from Monday to Tuesday, when there will be an increased risk of flooding, particularly along the Alzette and in areas bordering small rivers in the south and east of the country.
The AGE flood forecasting service is closely monitoring the situation and plans to issue an orange alert later this afternoon.
The intensity of the rainfall is expected to ease off early on Tuesday morning.
In order to deal with this situation:
- The emergency services (CGDIS) have reinforced their teams.
- Local authorities and campsite operators have been informed.
- The authorities are urging people to be vigilant, particularly in camping areas located near rivers.
It is strongly recommended that you:
- regularly check the weather forecast at www.meteolux.lu
- consult the heavy rain hazard maps at map.geoportail.lu to check whether your location is affected.
